For the past ten years the University of Maine has asked first year students to think back on their high school experience and gave them the opportunity to acknowledge an individual who made a significant impact in their lives. Eventually they decided to provide a special recognition to those teachers who have been mentioned at least four times. In the last five years, they have honored twenty five different teachers. This year they honored eight more and presented them with a a special award. On Friday, June 19th Chet Rock, Associate Dean
from the College of Engineering at UMO awarded Tom Pascarella a well-deserved certificate and medal. Congratulations Tom!
The Greely High School Mission
Greely High School is committed to high academic expectations for each student. We value teaching and learning in a safe and supportive environment which fosters respect for all. We work together so that students learn to communicate clearly and think critically. We promote lifelong learning and encourage students to take responsibility for themselves as individuals and as members of their community.
Connecting Community through Stories,Trails, and Technology
Students and teachers at Greely High School are participating in a three-year grant funded by the National Science Foundation. The CREST(Community for Rural Education Stewardship & Technology) project will train 44 teachers and 55 students in 11 schools along the coast of Maine in Geographic Information Systems, web design, and ethnographic research skills and teach them how to use these skills to assist their community. Students are working to develop a web resource of trails and interviews to help connect residents of Cumberland and North Yarmouth.
