Dear Parents,
As many of you may already know, a small number of our students who had been drinking alcohol attended the dance on Friday night. Based on our zero tolerance policy, these students have received school and law enforcement consequences.
As additional follow-up, I met with the Student Council Tuesday afternoon. The students recognized this unfortunate incident as an opportunity to have discussions with family and community members about the concerns associated with underage drinking. We also considered different avenues of communication that would help inform others about the dangers associated with this kind of behavior.
In the coming days, I will be meeting with the faculty leadership in order to review our dance procedures. We will also be discussing how we can better communicate our concerns to the students and how to use this as a learning opportunity for everyone. Needless to say, I am disappointed and hope incidents like this do not overshadow the accomplishments of our kids. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Dan McKeone
Hello Everyone,
As you may know, I have been on leave since November after undergoing a significant medical procedure. Over the last few weeks, I have been actively participating in a comprehensive physical recovery program that has been very beneficial. The efforts of the GHS staff to support our students during my absence has been extraordinary.
I look forward to returning soon and seeing everyone again in the new year.
Sincerely
Chris Mosca
Principal GHS
The Greely High School Mission
Greely High School is committed to high academic expectations for each student. We value teaching and learning in a safe and supportive environment which fosters respect for all. We work together so that students learn to communicate clearly and think critically. We promote lifelong learning and encourage students to take responsibility for themselves as individuals and as members of their community.
Connecting Community through Stories,Trails, and Technology
Students and teachers at Greely High School are participating in a three-year grant funded by the National Science Foundation. The CREST(Community for Rural Education Stewardship & Technology) project will train 44 teachers and 55 students in 11 schools along the coast of Maine in Geographic Information Systems, web design, and ethnographic research skills and teach them how to use these skills to assist their community. Students are working to develop a web resource of trails and interviews to help connect residents of Cumberland and North Yarmouth.
