Full-year course offerings in languages include:
French I, II, III, IV, and V [AP] (Advanced Placement):
Spanish I, II, III, IV, and V [AP]
Latin I, II, III, and IV.
In addition, both levels I and II of French and of Spanish are offered in a two year sequence, as scheduling permits. Students may be admitted to these courses through teacher recommendation.
Students who have successfully completed the junior high French or Spanish programs have met the requirements of the level I classes in these languages and are ready to enter level II classes. Many students also take an additional language. Some may choose to change languages, but need to remember two things: to gain a sufficient level of proficiency takes time, and lengthier sequences of language study also demonstrate that a student is serious about his/her studies.
More specific information can be found in the Greely High School Course Catalog.
Proficiency requirement:
Beginning with the class of 2003, all students must demonstrate proficiency in a language other than their own. The oral proficiency test to demonstrate speaking proficiency in French or Spanish is currently being developed. The tests for listening, reading, and writing in French/Spanish will be developed next, along with the test for profiency in Latin. These tests may be administered following the level II courses, and again as needed until students meet the requirement. The tests demonstrate attainment of a basic proficiency level; students should continue their course of study to achieve a higher level of proficiency.
