To Cumberland/North Yarmouth Families!
This is just the beginning of many MSAD51 educational discussions and we would like to propose a new forum.
~ Community Dialogue 51 ~
********
Community Dialogue 51 is an open and constructive forum where MSAD51 citizens can become informed, inspired and involved about educational topics affecting the Cumberland and North Yarmouth communities.
The mission is to help facilitate and cultivate strong working relationships between parents, teachers, administration, business, volunteers and other non-profit groups.
Collaboration and teamwork is the best way to move MSAD51 district forward. ALL Cumberland and North Yarmouth residents are encouraged to participate in the dialogue so that we can keep our communities strong and united.
********
Our hope is not to overwhelm everyone with MSAD51 school related topics but feel very strongly that it's important, especially during these economic times, to stay informed. We heard from several residents a desire to have more dialogue opportunities in addition to school board meetings. If you are interested in becoming informed, inspired and/or involved, please send an email to CommunityDialogue51-subscribe@yahoogroups.com This forum is restricted to Cumberland and
North Yarmouth residents. It's amazing what powerful ideas emerge when caring and passionate individuals, often with very different perspectives, engage in an open and constructive dialogue. The more we, as Cumberland and North Yarmouth residents, are informed the better decisions are made around budget priorities.
The Commissioner of Education told us that the following budget year (2010-2011) will involve a "cliff" in terms of state funding. The K-12 education state funding will potentially decrease +$800,000 in that next budget year. Not sure if you're aware of the public opportunities in the near future ... for example, the closure of Drowne Road School and how this will reorganize K-8 classrooms. Will our fifth graders be placed with 6-8 at Greely Middle School? This is just one example of the choices that will be made next year. On Monday, June 1st at 7pm in Greely Middle School cafeteria, the School Board will be holding a workshop/public forum/hearing on the budget given the tie vote last Tuesday.
Please see the attachment to read the entire letter from Dave Perkins, School Board Chairman. The letter contains information about the revised budget, public forum/hearing on June 1st and votes on June 10 and June 16.
Thank you for your consideration and we hope you share your thoughts, concerns and/or questions. To post messages to the forum (once approved ~ validate CNY residency) please send an email to CommunityDialogue51@yahoogroups.com
Best Regards,
Heather Giandrea
